Hydrangea (common names hydrangea or hortensia) is a genus of 70-75 species of flowering plants native to southern and eastern Asia (China, Japan, Korea, the Himalayas, and Indonesia) and the Americas. By far the greatest species diversity is in eastern Asia, notably China, Japan, and Korea. Most are shrubs 1 to 3 meters tall, but some are small trees, and others lianas reaching up to 30 m (98 ft) by climbing up trees.
Before my divorce, I had an amazing garden that I worked so hard to create. I had beautiful lilac bushes all around. In the spring, I would go out to take cuttings first thing in the morning and bring them in with fresh morning dew still dripping from the petals. Somehow, it was a nice fresh awakening for my soul.
hydrangea All hydrangeas will bloom and grow well in morning sun and afternoon shade. For normal sized hydrangeas, expect the plant to reach at least 4 ft. X 4 ft. Plant in well-drained soil! If soil is heavy, add roughage such as pine bark mulch (Make sure it's ground BARK not ground WOOD).
