My mother (5 years old) and her parents were booked from Liverpool for their return to New York after 8 months in Paris, in August of 1915 at the dawn of WWI. My grandfather was in the steel business and had been aiding in the war effort for France. My grandmother volunteered at The American Hospital of Paris, Wounded Soldiers Division. The Lusitania sank on May 7, 1915 after being torpedoed by a German U-boat.

James Cameron, the very well-known movie maker, descended into the Mariana Trench's Challenger Deep, the deepest point on Earth in March of 2012. He took his custom-designed submarine into the trench to explore the unknown. Cameron likens the experience to arriving onto a different planet. Unfortunately for Cameron and scientists, there was not any life that far down. On the other hand, Cameron's sub malfunctioned and he lost sight out of the sub, which forced him to return.
