Mangrove forests are unique in that one acre of mangroves can absorb up to five times more carbon than an acre of terrestrial forest! This is because tropical mangroves store most of their carbon in the soil through their extensive root systems. The Siwa Oasis is an oasis in Egypt, between the Qattara Depression and the Egyptian Sand Sea in the Libyan Desert, nearly 30 miles east of the Libyan border, and 348 miles from Cairo. During his campaign to conquer the Persian Empire, Alexander the Great reached the oasis, to speak with the Oracle of Amun, which Alexander's court historians alleged, confirmed him as both a divine personage and the legitimate Pharaoh of Egypt, though Alexander's motives in making the excursion.
