Beachy waves are our most-wanted summer style, even when we're nowhere near the surf. We enlisted Birchbox staffer Megan to show us how to get this chic tousled style for shorter hair using a clipless curling iron and two great Birchbox hair products. Watch the video to see how she adds volume and texture simply by changing the way she holds the curling iron—and this technique works on short, medium, and long hair!
I just did this at 3 in the morning because I HAD to try. I happened to have some of the same product they used. It WORKED. Best beach waves tutorial for short and medium length hair I've found! how to: beach waves for short hair - style - Little Miss Momma
Long Hair: Messy Updo Texturizing hairsprays are a hairstylist’s new best friend, because they add great grip. Unfortunately, they’re not exactly cheap. Ristaino swears by Garnier Texture Tease — for all textures. “I particularly like using it when styling a messy chignon, or beach waves, with all hair types,” he says. “It basically gives you that sexy, voluminous hair that’s touchable, buildable, and easy to work with. Plus, it’s less than $5 a bottle!”
This works great for texturizing, but if your hair is straight like mine you won't get a "beach wave" without some assistance from a curling iron/straightener. I still use it to give my hair some personality when I don't have time to style. Also fyi it smells amaaaaazing~
