Photo of the day: Asakon stands on a sack of flour in Turkana, Kenya. In July 2011, the entire East Africa region was hit by a severe drought that killed off livestock and depleted crops. The Turkana region was one of Kenya's most severely affected districts. Whole communities have been pushed to the brink of starvation. Merlin is responding by delivering vital food rations and medical aid to families like Asakon's to help them survive the ongoing drought. Photo by Eugenie Reidy.
