KALX & OIM Records Present a night with Waterstrider. This five-piece set hailing from Oakland is a bit of an enigma of style. Don’t let their Caucasian-ness fool you, these guys are big on the Afropop, with organic World music sounds to boot. Frontman Nate Salman’s falsetto is so sublime, it’ll make Robin Thicke blur with jealousy. Waterstrider will be performing alongside psychedelic troupe The Seshen and quirky Foxtails Brigade.
Sperry Presents is bringing you a musical duo to die for. Young Rising Sons are surely rising stars of the rock/indie/pop/feel-good scene. Their up-beat stylish sound draws equally from their Beatles, Temptations, Springsteen roots. It’s a sound that will leave you grooving, if not fully beboping. Since their debut in 2013, I honestly don’t think Hunter Hunted has had time to sleep.
Those industrious scamps at Endgames Improv host special nights of comedy all week long. They almost seem to be working too hard at comedy, if there is such a thing. Wednesdays it’s Harold Night, where they throw their budding students to the sharks to perform the tried-and-true improv we all know and love. Love is a strong word you may think, but these guys don’t phone it in.
It’s Sunday, the parade is over, your buzz is just starting to wear off, and you’ve finally escaped from one of those weird balloon backpacks that seems to keep following you around, so what now? For a complete Pride experience, your best option is to attend Sunday Mass Pride at Public Works, an all night, all fun, all pride-full extravaganza.
