How to 'Hygge' Your Home

It would be too easy hitting the snooze button in a bedroom like this! "Hygge" helps to remind us of the importance of comfortable home design. This forest wallpaper certainly brings us back to nature and instills a sense of tranquility into your home.

Space-creating ideas: Bathrooms

Go with an all-white decorating scheme to make your bathroom feel more spacious. A slim tapering ladder shelf unit, like this from The White Company, provides essential storage. Decorate the bathroom with potted plants and bud vases to add a natural touch. Find more inspiration at housebeautiful.co.uk

Artist's Profile: Joan Hardie Artist's Statement My aims are to produce ceramics that encourage people to look afresh at the natural world and which are lively, interesting, accessible and affordable. My work is inspired by natural textures, colours and forms, particularly from trees, ferns, lichens and fungi. I enjoy trying to capture something of the feeling of a natural subject in clay, so that the ceramic piece becomes a celebration of nature.

I like the colouring on this (unfortunately the staircase itself isn't likely to be achievable!) Natural woods complemented with rusty red hues.

This is one of my favourite illustration pieces that I came across in the theme of water. I especially love the soft elements that combine to create a very dramatic and interesting image. I feel that the level of water filling the drawing up cuts this image up slightly so that it is not too plain. I also am very fond of the composition that has been used in this design as it is all very much tied in together and nothing seems to be out of place, for example, the whale seems to merge in well.
