Near the village of Vik, south Iceland lies a small enclosed canyon, sheltered on all sides by steep, moss-covered vertical mountains. The floor of the canyon is a grassy plain, about the size of an American football field, which serves as a camping site. A little freshwater stream trickles though the camping site and in front of the houses and the surrounding landscape is spectacular. A hiker´s paradise.
Picture the juxtaposition of the North American and the European continents in the middle of Iceland. Combine that with and over 800 year history of democracy (one of the earliest parliaments), this place of nature and culture amazes. Nearby is the Geysir and one of the world's most impressive waterfalls. Iceland also has amazing food - limitless seafood, organic vegetables and lamb.
