This is a fluorescence image of a neuronal growth cone in cell culture. Mature neurons extend processes called axons and dendrites. Immature neurons form these processes by forming neurites, which have growth cones at their tips. Growth cones collects sensory information from the environment, and establish synapses (the connection points between neurons).
