open round Nantucket Lightship Basket with pronounced carved heart shaped handles. Very unusual form, most likely used as a sewing basket. Attributed to Charles F. Ray (1826-1901), son of Capt. Charles Ray and the father of Clinton Mitchy Ray. He was a cooper and was a crewman abourd the Crossrip Lightship c.1880-1900.
