French wax seal set - double sided discs with various mottos & proverbs in a tube with an opened ended collar. You put the seal you want to use at the top, and then screw on the collar. You then use it as a wax seal stamp.****Part of my personal collection
Antique ivory and silver seal modelled as a seated hound sitting on an Acanthus flower base with reeded sides and reeded top to seal. Superbly carved dog, wearing collar, great detail and a lovely colour to the ivory after being handled for so many years. The seal has a lion standing with an arrow in its mouth to the centre and the latin inscription "HAUD SECUS IN BONIS" around the outside. Probaly English and probably late 18th or early 19th century.
Étui, 1774-1775 France, Gold. Made to hold sealing wax, which was purchased as a stick. One end of the wax stick would be heated until it begins to melt, at which point it would be dabbed onto a folded letter to seal it. Metropolitan Museum of Art
