EDITORIAL—Rosemont: Think before digging! - Green Valley News: Columns - "Two engineering firms implicated by Canadian authorities in the Mt. Polley tailings dam collapse contributed key engineering studies used by Rosemont Copper to authenticate a required mining permit."

Mining Dam Failures Present a Global Danger 4/4/2016 Massive tailings dams, like this functional one near Antonio Pereira, Brazil, are built by mining companies to hold back the sludge left behind when a mill separates metals from ore. But the dams fail often enough that industry engineers are sounding alarms.

Our civil construction comes have enclosed bulk earthworks, concrete installation, project rehabilitation, conveyor line preparation and construction of roads, drill pads, rail formations, tailings dams, run-of-mine pads, seawalls, airstrips, greenfield mine development, bridges, tunnels, accommodation camps and ore facilities.

The Risky Rise of the Dams: with mining growth comes larger, deeper, more unwieldy tailings ponds, experts warn. Article by Andrew Nikiforuk for Tyee.

Red Chris Mine In 2013, a third party review was done of Imperial Metals’ engineering designs for their tailings pond at Red Chris. The independent review concluded there was no guarantee that Imperial Metal’s tailings pond would hold toxic wastewater from the mine. Despite this conclusion, construction at Red Chris has been allowed to continue, and the mine is currently scheduled to open in September of this year.
