Torah crown

Torah Crown, Austria (ca. 1825; gold, silver, diamonds, emeralds, rubies, amethysts, turquoises). Probably made for a personal Torah scroll. Central to Jewish observance is the Torah, the first five books of the Hebrew Bible. The Torah is written on a scroll and wound on rollers. It is customary to decorate the rollers with a crown, symbolizing the majesty and law of the Torah. © Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
