"Reinfirst" (2015). Religion has always been tricky for me. I am drawn to the historical pervasiveness of ritual and often feel a connection to the trappings, but when I get right down in the dregs of any faith it falls short and my need for logic and science and proof always win out. This makes me sad sometimes, but not nearly as sad as when I read about folks hurting themselves or others for their faith. Meet Reinfirst, inspired by the ultimate religious torture of death by fasting.
"Summer" A golden summer twilight, peaceful and restful. All my summers were gold when I was little. It's sad that with age they lose that tinge. The Return of the Wanderer (2015). All parents have a moment where they have to watch their children fight with real problems, and sometimes those children wander from the path previously trod to find something new. The wander is hard, but important. Drawing is 9in x 12in Materials: Copic Multiliners,Black Colored Pencils,Strathore Bristol Smooth Paper 100 Lb #art #drawing #penandink
"For Alex" (2013) I drew this for my daughter, who is rapidly approaching young womanhood. My goal was to capture the irrational and perpetual longing for 'something different' that marked my adolescence so thoroughly. When I showed it to her she said "I love it. It's so lonely." "Hypostasis" (2014) . Hypostasis is the essential nature or underlying reality of an object or a being. I often think it would be oh so useful if we could see the root of a person, the pain and the difficulty and the struggles that inform their decisions and actions. So many of us have broken bits that are unseen, unacknowledged and misunderstood.
"The Dancer" (2015) I like beaks. I really do. They want to be drawn and then attached in places they just shouldn't be. I also like androgyny ... so I end up with androgynous bird men ... in feathered skirts.
