(Kalamkari is a Persian term that means 'pen work', as they were originally hand-drawn with a simple bamboo pen, and only later block-printed. ) This beautiful Kalamkari is from South-east India or possibly Sri Lanka, also from the late 19th century. These pieces were based on earlier Indian chintzes made for the European market, but in a slightly simplified form with a reduced pallette
