Fine ca.1950s Yoruba aso oke with Arabic text. This style of aso oke with short texts executed in extra weft float was a brief fashion for ceremonial cloths used at weddings and funerals in the 1950s, but examples such as this one where the writing is in Arabic as well as Yoruba are extremely unusual. The Yoruba text reads "Jinodu from Lagos sleep well", indicating it was woven for the funeral of a Lagos man called Jinodu, while the Arabic read "God is Great." Dates from circa 1950
