Granada, Nicaragua, was founded in 1524 by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, ostensibly the first European city in mainland America. Leon, Nicaragua. León is a department (state) in northwestern Nicaragua. It is also the second largest city in Nicaragua, after Managua. It was founded by the Spaniards as León Santiago de los Caballeros, and rivals Granada, Nicaragua, in the number of historic Spanish colonial homes and churches.
Lots of houses are made out of available resources in Nicaragua. The roofs are made of branches and other pieces of trees that can be easily found. Houses are small in comparison to the monumental buildings in Nicaragua.
