Whenever I see a spectacular photo of Grauman's Chinese Theatre that makes me go “Wow! Which premiere that was for?” almost invariably it turns out to be the taken the night of the spare-no-expense night that Howard Hughes’s “Hell’s Angels” opened. The caption to this photo says that they had 200 searchlights(!!) as well as smokescreens in the sky onto which the film screen title was projected. I’ve never heard that before, and it was probably hard to photograph, but I’d love to have seen…
