On 27 May US Navy Curtiss flying boat completed the first trans-Atlantic flight from North America to Europe, flying from from New York to Lisbon, Portugal. The trip took 19 days, with numerous stops.

The bare essentials aircraft was flown out from the United States and fitted out at Beaumaris to take on the German U Boats. They became a formidable weapon dreaded by the U Boat crews. rjp
