Tiziano Vecelli or Tiziano Vecellio (1488/1490-1576) was an Italian painter. He was born in Pieve di Cadore, in the Republic of Venice. Titian was one of the most versatile of Italian painters, equally adept with portraits, landscape backgrounds, & mythological & religious subjects. His painting methods, particularly in the application & use of color, would exercise a profound influence not only on painters of the Italian Renaissance, but on future generations of Western art.
Titian: 'Bacchus and Ariadne' The painting is one of a famous series by Bellini, Titian and the Ferrarese artist Dosso Dossi, commissioned for the Camerino d'Alabastro, (Alabaster Room) in the Ducal Palace, Ferrara, by Alfonso d'Este, Duke of Ferrara.
