February 4th is the date of the 1801 swearing in of John Marshall as Chief Justice of the United States. In our collection, we have a letter from Justice Marshall to Charles Coatsworth Pinkney discussing his thoughts on the new Jefferson administration and a copy of his 1804, 5 volume, work "The Life of George Washington."

John Calvin and the Presbyterian Church sought to remove irregularities found in the observance of the Lord’s Supper and saw the usefulness of tokens to do so. These 'tokens' were often made of lead and were distributed to congregation members, by the church elders, in the days just prior to the Communion Service. Without a token a person would not be allowed to participate in communion. This is one such token from the Huguenot Church.

The Prison Ship Martyrs Monument at Fort Greene Park ~ The greatest suffering in the cause of American liberty was endured on the prison ships in Wallabout Bay.  The Jersey, the most notorious ship, housed as many as 1,000 men. The starving and freezing men suffered from small pox and many other diseases. The Americans could obtain their freedom by pledging loyalty to the king. Few did.
