Demodex – Mange in Dogs Mange is a parasitic skin disease caused by microscopic mites. Two different mange mites cause skin disease in dogs. Heterophyes heterophyes and metagonimus yokohawai are referred to as the heterophyids. The diagnosis process is driven by eggs in feces. People become infected when they eat undercooked fish so I suggest that everyone cooks their fish. Heavy infections causing mucoid diarrhea can form. Also granulomas sometimes occur. This is treated with praziquantel. Disease names are Heterophyiasis and Metagonimiasis.
