A few days after baptism, noble Perpetua (Carthage 203), age 22, was imprisoned with brother Saturus and servants Felicitas (icon), Revocatus, Saturninus and Secundulus. Her father begged her not to leave her infant son, but she refused; Felicitas gave birth in prison. Saturninus and Revocatus were killed by a leopard and a bear. Perpetua and Felicitas were wounded by a wild heifer and Saturus was bitten by a leopard. They were then killed by the sword. All are celebrated Feb 1.

St. Francis of Paola was born at Paula in Calabria, Italy. After living as a hermit for five years he gathered around him some companions with whom he led the religious life. This was the origin of a new order, to which he gave the name of Minims, that is "the least" in the house of God - a branch of the Franciscans.

Francis of Paola: Italian mendicant friar and the founder of the Roman Catholic Order of Minims. Unlike the majority of founders of men's religious orders, and like his patron saint, Francis was never ordained a priest.
