What can I say about a film that took up the better part of 2 years of my life?  Every person in the film, even the process of making it, having it edited, then reaching out to the community that would carry it the furthest shaped me. It was an exhilarating, but tough experience, and through the process I made many friends.

Alzina Toups of Galliano, Louisiana, was the winner of SFA’s Ruth Fertel Keeper of the Flame Award this past weekend at our “Women at Work” Symposium. Since 2000, the SFA, with support from the Fertel Foundation, honors an unsung hero or heroine, a foodways tradition bearer of note, with this award.
