Empire Crown on sea trials. Empire Crown was a 7,067 GRT cargo ship built by John Readhead & Sons Ltd, Sunderland. Launched on 16/10/43 and completed in January '44. Given to French Government in '45 and renamed Capitaine G Lacoley. Sold in '61 to Mparmpapetros Shipping Co Sa and renamed Mparmpa Petros. Operated under the management of Pateras Shipbrokers Ltd, London. Ran aground on 22/05/63 at Porto de Pedras, Brazil, a total loss.
Shell Tankers UK; STS Halia(19,480 tonnage) built by Hawthorn Leslie & Co in 1958. She was one of the 30 "H" Class tankers built for Shell by various yards. Halia was converted inn 1969 to a Lightening Tanker in 1969 and managed to outlive her 29 sisters finally arriving at San Sebastian for scrapping in August 1985.
SS Afric Star built for Blue Star by Palmers Shipbuilding & Iron Co Ltd at Newcastle on Tyne. Launced 11/05/26 completed November '26. GWt 11,900t. 470ft long, 67ft beam. She was a cargo passenger liner with a 180 1st Class capacity. Sunk by German Auxilary Cruiser Kormoran on 09/01/41 en route to Cape Verde Islands.
