David Niven, famous English actor and novelist. A former regular soldier in the Highland Light Infantry , Niven used a rouse to escape a Hollywood contract and return to England after War began in 1939. After being turned down by the R.A.F he was commissioned into the Rifle Brigade, and later joined the Commando`s. He saw active service in Malta and North West Europe. Niven ended the war as a lieutenant-colonel. On his return to Hollywood after the war, he received the Legion of Merit.
