Portion of Bayeux Tapestry, which chronicles the events from before the Norman conquest of England to the Battle of Hastings and defeat of the Anglo-Saxon king, Harold II.  It is widely believed to have been commissioned by Bishop Odo, the half-brother of William the Conqueror, in the 1070s and sewn by Anglo-Saxon seamsters but different theories exist regarding its origins.  It is currently housed in a museum in Bayeux, Normandy, France.
