Activist DeRay Mckesson Freed After Arrest During Protest In Baton Rouge

Mathematician and engineer Archie Alphonso Alexander (1888–1958) was the first black to graduate from the University of Iowa's College of Engineering. He helped design the Whitehurst Freeway, the Tidal Basin Bridge, an extension to the Baltimore-Washington Parkway, the Tuskegee Airfield and the Iowa State University heating and cooling system. A Republican, President Eisenhower appointed him Governor of the U.S. Virgin Islands in 1954.
