Vicar's Close in Wells, Somerset, claimed to be the oldest purely residential street with original buildings all surviving intact in Europe."That rarest of survivals, a planned street of the mid-14th century". It comprises numerous Grade 1 listed buildings, comprising 27 residences (originally 44), a chapel and library at the north end, & a hall at the south end, over an arched gate. It is connected at its southern end to the cathedral by way of a walkway over Chain Gate.
"Happy Feet" by 17-year-old Emily Johnson, a 2009 Photo Contest Honorable Mention. "We hang up our laundy to dry in our back yard," she said, "and I have a lot of fun shoes that I like to take pictures of. And I love poppies." The Knappa High School student shot the photo with her mom's Canon Rebel camera and says she would like to make photography her career.
