There's a lot to be thankful to Lincoln about: guiding the country through the Civil War and helping end slavery. But residents of Michigan have something special to thank the 16th president for: the term many of us use to describe ourselves: Michigander.
September 4, 1957 - This photo depicts African American student Elizabeth Eckford, one of The Little Rock Nine, as she headed to school after it was integrated. Eckford missed a message to meet with the other black students so they wouldn’t have to brave the angry crowd alone. As depicted in this photograph, Eckford calmly walked past as the mob jeered and shouted at her, very brave indeed.
Abraham Lincoln. It's impossible to doubt that he felt the pain that comes with having sent thousands of men to their death, in order to free people who were enslaved for so long while preserving this very country. Each death, from both armies is clearly marked in his face.
