Parícutin, Michoacán, MEX. Parícutin is the youngest volcano in the western hemisphere, said to have grown from a cornfield from 1943 - 1952. The volcano has over 1400 vents and is now extinct. In its first year of activity Parícutin grew 424 meters of its final height of 2807 meters above sea level. 1000 people were killed in the last major eruption of Parícutin in 1949 and it is said ashes reached Mexico City which is located 322 kilometers from the location of Parícutin.
