Conceptual artist Marta Minujín chose to make this "first monument of democracy" of books because "books are vehicles of culture and thought," she said  in a 2013 interview (in Spanish) at the site below. The structure was disassembled Christmas Eve day and the books distributed to schools, libraries and those present.
