Storms River bridge [Eastern Cape, South Africa, 1954-1956] designed by Riccardo Morandi. Morandi did this from Rome from photographs and verbal information without being on site until after the structure was finished. In conjunction with the constructing engineer, Mr Bruno Desirello, they started the bridge and finished in 1956 at a cost of 100 000 pounds. This was one of the first arch bridges in South Africa with a span of 330ft over the gorge at a height of 405ft above the river…
