Gion, Kyoto Gion is Kyoto's most famous geisha district, located in the city center around Shijo Avenue between Yasaka Shrine in the east and the Kamo River in the west. This is where you're likely to see a real life Geisha heading to work.
In 2008 I went with a group of friends on a day-trip to this awe-inspiring Amitabha Buddha statue located about 1 hour from central Tokyo. With its majestic 110 meters (plus an extra 10 meters for the lotus platform) of height, it currently is (to my knowledge) the world’s 3rd highest statue, just barely below its competitors. Compare this with the Statue of Liberty which is 93 meters high (the statue itself is just 46 meters), and you’ll probably get the idea of its enormous size.
