1740-1760 French-Canadian Armoire (detail) at the Royal Ontario Museum, Toronto - This armoire is a good example of the Louis XIII style that was retained in Canada well after it had gone out of use in France itself.  The diamond lozenges used for decoration seen here were distinctive to this style, and they continued to be used on French-Canadian furniture throughout the 18th century, eventually becoming part of a distinctive "rustic" style.
