Mother Ganges Monochrome. Women greet the morning sun with a purifying bath in the the holy Ganges at Varanasi, India. Hindu pilgrims hope to achieve moksha, an end to the cycle of death and rebirth, by washing away their sins in the sacred waters. This scene has played out on these steps for thousands of years.
That was a winter morning at Munnar, in Southern India, when I saw this man waiting for his bus to the town. The near-monochrome ambiance, coupled with a slash of blue in shop's wall, made me reach for my camera. Photograph by Unni Pulikkal S.
