Delnadamph Lodge is on the Balmoral Estate about 8 miles north of the castle. It was given by Queen Elizabeth II to her eldest son, Prince Charles & his first wife Diana on their marriage, but Diana found the home uninviting & was not interested in repairing it. The lodge was gutted in 1987, but twenty years later is being rebuilt as a 12-bedroom retreat for Charles & his second and current wife Camilla. The Lodge will complement Birkhall which Charles inherited from the Queen Mother.
Prince Philip, 1933 - In 1930, at the age of eight, Prince Philip came to Britain to attend Cheam School in Surrey. He lived partly with his maternal grandmother (Princess Louis of Battenberg; from 1917 Marchioness of Milford Haven) in Kensington Palace, and partly with his uncle, the 2nd Marquess of Milford Haven, at Lynden Manor near Maidenhead. This photograph was taken in 1933, shortly before Prince Philip left Cheam.
