A microchip is small, but the amount of detail is fabulous. A microprocessor the size of a fingernail can now contain up to two billion transistors - each transistor less than 0.00007 millimetres wide. Magnify this circuit and it becomes a structure as complex as a sprawling metropolitan city.

Atsushi Koyama born 1978 is a visual artist from Japan. He holds both a BFA in art from Tama Art University and a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Tokyo University of Science. METAMACHINE is his collaborative project at the border of visual art and electronic music. A machine – the simplest rotating devices of mechanical nature – come apart and expands on black background of Koyama’s canvases while parts of human body gently and with care hold, elevate or support the running parts…
