KHALIFA BIN SALMAN PIER, Bahrain (Feb. 25, 2013) Mine countermeasures ships USS Warrior (MCM 10) and USS Pioneer (MCM 9) undergo the sea-fastening phase of a heavy lift operation aboard the heavy lift ship Super Servant III. Pearl Harbor, Hawaii ~ August 22 ~ 1991 Midway was relieved as the Navy's forward-based aircraft carrier by USS Independence, in what was known as The Great Carrier Swap-Out.

This is the ghost fleet of mothballed ships in Suisun Bay off San Diego, California. Some of the ships have been anchored here since the 1950s and include a battleship and an amphibious landing ship. Many, if most, of the ships will never be re-activated but are too expensive to break up. Some will become museum ships, such as the battleship USS Iowa, and some will be sold other countries to become part of their navies. Some will simply sink to the bottom of the bay.
