A reef formed by the coral species Lophelia pertusa at 450m below the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

Coral reefs form habitats for many marine species, but little is known about deep-sea reefs – including how they appear

A map of the Pacific Ocean showing where coral samples were collected. Circles of the same color indicate corals that are genetically similar. Blue arrows indicate cool ocean currents; red arrows indicate warm ocean currents. The inset image shows the study species, Porites lobata. Credit: Baums lab, Penn State University

Intimate Relations: The nuclear genomes of bears (black outline) suggest that polar bears evolved from brown bears 4 to 5 million years ago, and that occasional exchange of genes between the two species (shaded gray areas) followed. Results from maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA (dotted line) indicates extinction (marked with an "X") and replacement of polar bear mitochondrial DNA around 160,000 years ago due to interbreeding between the two species. An analysis of newly sequenced polar bear genomes is providing important clues about the species' evolution, suggesting that climate change and genetic exchange with brown bears helped create the polar bear as we know it today.

Atlantic Barracuda, Coastal Georgia and Florida.

The great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda) also known as the giant barracuda is a species of barracuda. Great barracudas often grow over 6 feet m) long and are a type of ray-finned fish.

He intends to work on this. Cladophora goensis and Ulva paschima — recently discovered species — have had no chemical/pharmaceutical studies conducted on them yet.
