CAPTIVE … in 1867, chief Many Bears of the Kiowa tribe bought a young Mexican-American captive from an Apache Indian. He paid the price of one mule, two buffalo robes, and a red blanket for young Andres Martinez, whose name was later changed to Andele’. From age 10, Andele’ lived as an Indian in the Kiowa tribe. At age 30 he discovered his former family still living in Las Vegas, NM. He went home, but 4 years later, he returned to his Kiowa family where he would remain forever.
