- Museo Parma
Fantastically beautiful fibula of gold, silver, and enamel, inscribed with the name of, and a comment on, Uffila, found at Witlislingen on the Danube. Uffila was a rich woman, and this important brooch was even signed by its maker. 7th c A.D. Length as much as 17 cm. "Barbarian", to use the term coined by the Greeks and later used by the Romans for certain Europeans outside their sphere of power. What a great - and civilised - work of art ..
