Amedeo Modigliani European 20th Century. Modigliani had a short and rather harsh life. Modigliani found a source for simple expressions of the human figure in African tribal sculpture. His well known trademark style of the elongated neck, very large oval eyes, and flat nose, came from the primitive tribal sculptures he studied. This portait of a woman with elongated neck is an example of his classic style.
