Portrait of the Infanta Maria Theresa of Spain, by Diego Velasquez. This Spanish painter was the leading artist in the court of King Philip IV and this portrait is of his daughter. Working during the Baroque period, his most famous painting was Las Meninas painted in 1656, 4 yrs before he died. Velasquez's work inspired the impressionists, realists, surrealists and even the Cubists of the 19th and 20th century.
