Like a lot of people my age this was the first RPG I ever played and I have to say I loved it! If you're serious about collecting classic role playing games there's no better place to start. These are still dirt cheap on ebay and will guaranteed give you a mega blast of nostalgia if you're about the right age. Still fun to play, though obviously things have moved on a bit. I do like games where you save vs absolute and final (unless you have a cleric handy) death!
Minoan gaming board (reproduction). "The original has inlays of ivory, rock crystal, and glass paste, and was decorated with kyanos blue as well as gold and silver sheetmetal, on a wooden base. Four ivory gaming pieces with engraved bases were found nearby and are associated with it. This is the most complex and best preserved gaming board to survive from Minoan Crete." (via metmuseum.org)
Knossos game is the ancient board game discovered by Evans in the Palace of Knossos and goes back to 1600 BC. It is a "race game", but at the same time something more. It portrays an ancient symbolism about life and the trip to Hades with a return back to life. A gap between the two parts of the board was supposed to be the River-Ocean that separates the world of the living from the world of the dead, to be found far beyond the sea, where the Sun descends.
