Ft. Jefferson was a Kentucky settlement located at the merge of the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. The Chickasaw Indians were furious as their land had been sold and settled by the white man. They attacked (1780). A huge battle ensued. All homes and businesses were burned to the ground. Many families, including the Hutsels & Ilers (1781), fled losing all their land and investments eventually settling further south in Natchez, MS near Ft Adams. (Indian Blood, Vol 2 Richard Pangburn. P 146).
