Alexandra Danilova (Nov. 20, 1903 - July 13, 1997) was born in Russia and trained at the Imperial School of Ballet in St. Petersberg, Russia. She was of the most popular dancers of her time and danced with the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo from 1938 - 1945 where she was often partnered by Freddie Franklin. The two were part of the original cast of Danses Concertantes premiering September 10, 1944. Choreography for the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo was by George Balanchine.

I love the shapes. The flowing fabrics and the strong lines of the dancers' bodies are a beautiful contrast, and all together they contort themselves into these organic shapes that are both graceful and powerful. Just begging for a sculpture!
