With nothing more than hand tools, friends, family and a desire to avoid an expensive, unsustainable home, Simon Dale built his own. As a staunch advocate for low impact living, and with only a meager income, 32 year-old Dale decided to build a home in a hillside in Wales, one that he and his family could own outright and was sustainably hand-built directly in the middle of the forest.
A beautiful outdoor living space with a fireplace is directly incorporated into the floorplan of Kousa Creek (SL-1406). This screened porch flows seamlessly from the indoor living and dining area making this home perfect for entertaining. This home was built by The Lewes Building Company and was a 2012 Southern Living Showcase Home. Quality materials featured in this photo include Eldorardo stone, Trex decking, Sherwin-Williams paint and cedar trim. Furniture by Johnny Janosik (Laurel DE).
