When I first saw an image of the Wuppertal Schwebebahn, I didn’t think it was real - I assumed it was either some half-baked, late 19th century utopian dream that never happened, or maybe part of some kind of steam punk style film set. A story from the history of the Wuppertal Schwebebahn - in 1950 a young circus elephant was taken aboard as a publicity stunt, but unfortunately he didn't appreciate the journey and decided to make a bid for freedom - straight into the river. All ended well and he lived until 1989.
