New Castle IN man walking again after "miracle" - Prolific basketball player in city is in wheelchair one day, paralyzed from waist down, & walking the next, paralyzed since October. Wednesday night he woke to terrible pain in his legs, walking Thursday Jan. 23, which made perfect sense to Joel. He had dreamt of a calendar that only said "J 23." He didn't know what to make of it until "a little boy at church, 4 yrs old, came up to me & says, you will walk on a Thursday." Joel said.
William "Ray" Werner joined the Marine Corps on December 8, 1941. Two years later Ray's mother received the official Marine Corps letter dated September 14, 1943, which read, "My dear Mrs. Warner: . . . your son, Private First class William R. Werner, Jr. U.S. Marine Corp Reserve, sustained a fracture of the third lumbar vertebrae on 20 July 1943 and was transferred to a hospital on 7 August 1943 for further medical treatment."
